Deciding On Size & Space For An Artwork
Choosing the right size and location for your artwork can be challenging. Factors like color preference, compatibility with the interior design, and available room size all play a role. How can you determine which artwork suits your space? Trusting your personal taste in medium and genre is key since it's subjective. In this guide, we will provide information on the sizes of the artwork we sell. You can use it as a reference when selecting the right size for you. Let's start with some general information and rules.
Breathing Space
The size indicated in our catalogue means the painted area on a canvas. For example, if you order an artwork with the size indicated as 100x100cm, the painted area on the canvas is 100x100cm.
We do not paint to the edge of the canvas. We don’t put anything important within 2 to 3 inches (5 to 7cm) of the edge. We know that all our customers want the artworks to be framed. Therefore, we usually will leave 2 to 3 inches white space to leave in the edges of a canvas. If you specifically need the artists to leave some more breathing space considering how much additional space you need to leave for the frame, please feel free to talk to us and let us know your requirements.
For more information about the size, please refer to the photo on the right.
Frame Specification
If you order with a frame, we will frame the artwork for you. The frame we choose is a floater frame. A float frame, as the name implies, is designed in such a way that the artwork appears to float within the frame. Please take note of three dimensions of a floater frame: width (or width face), thickness (or frame depth), rabbet depth (depth for the stretched artwork)
Our standard floater frame is about 9mm to the width, 35mm to the frame depth, 23mm to the rabbet depth. Please see the photo here for your reference.
If you order with an inner frame version only (stretched out), the thickness of the stretched artwork is about 20mm.
General Rules
Common Size Available
When it comes to wall art, size matters. A beautiful handmade artwork can be the statement decor your room was missing, yet if the size isn’t right, something will feel off. You want your wall art to be eye-catching and pull the space together rather than feel like it doesn’t belong. Too small and your room can look incomplete, too big and the room can feel a little too crowded. You want it to be just right. To ensure that your masterpiece fits beautifully and complements the room, we’ve put together this easy guide to help you pick wall art that’s the right size for your space.
150x100cm / 60×40″
The size indicated in this photo is 150x100cm, the most common size of the horizontal paintings of our gallery. Usually it is good enough for most of the walls. This size is good for you or your guests to appreciate the painting while at the same time it won’t make your home feel cluttered.
180x120cm / 70×47″
The size indicated in this photo is 180x120cm. In general, bigger is always better. It is good if you got a large wall.
200x135cm / 79×53″
The size indicated in this photo is 200x135cm.
300x200cm / 118×79″
As you can see in this photo, although the wall is large enough, it is not empty enough to hold such large wall art. However, it can still create a beautiful focal point. As you saw in the sizing rules, your wall art should take up a large portion of an empty wall and be large relative to the furniture as well. So when in doubt, go big!
100x100cm / 39×39″
120x120cm / 47×47″
150x150cm / 47×47″
200x200cm / 78×78″
100x200cm / 39×78″
With Frames or Without Frames?
A frame does much more than just enhance the image you have chosen. We believe that at the end of the day, you should frame the artwork you like. A good quality frame also protects your artwork, preserving it for many years to come.
The canvas float frames are approx. 1.25″ deep on the inside and 1.5″ on the outside. If you order a frame with us, we would stretch the canvas on a 1″ deep stretcher bar and install them into the frames with wire to hang them.
Although we can send the framed art to you from overseas, we do not recommend you to buy artwork with sizes larger than 200cm. The reason is that it increases the risk of being damaged. We also welcome our customers to support our artists and local framers.
